Smiling Kid McClaran Orthodontics

During the observation period, Dr. McClaran is monitoring how your child’s face and teeth are growing and developing. Most children will fall into this category and will not need any orthodontic treatment but it can be one of the most important times in planning for your child’s future orthodontic needs. Monitoring your child's growth and development is all part of the process so the observation phase in our office is complementary.

Kid Braces McClaran Orthodontics

Phase I Braces

Phase I Braces typically consist of a few brackets on the front teeth to make room for permanent teeth. Sometimes this phase is necessary for social concerns, to correct crossbite or anything else that could negatively affect the gum tissue, teeth or bite. This phase of treatment is short and is followed with a retainer that is worn at night. Most of the time Phase I braces are followed by comprehensive braces once all the permanent teeth are in. Dr. McClaran is very conservative in her treatment approach and only recommends this early phase of treatment if it is absolutely necessary.

expander McClaran Orthodontics

Expanders slowly widen the upper jaw to ensure the back teeth fit together properly. Dr. McClaran will determine during her evaluation if your child would benefit from an expander and explain it in more detail.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common and frequently used braces for orthodontic treatment. These braces consist of a small metal bracket that is glued to each tooth and connected together with a wire. The wires are held into place by small rubber bands that come in a variety of colors. The fun colors allow each patient to customize their braces for their liking at every appointment. Every time you come in for a regular visit, Dr. McClaran will make adjustments to your braces to move your teeth into their proper position. Metal braces are a fun way to straighten teeth for both children and teenagers alike.

Ceramic (Clear) Braces

Ceramic braces are clear and operate the same way as metal braces. They are a more esthetic option for people that are concerned about having metal braces on their teeth.

Invisalign is another treatment modality to straighten teeth without using traditional brackets and wires. It consists of a set of clear aligners that are virtually unnoticeable. The aligners are worn about 22 hours every day and changed out weekly. As time progresses, the teeth move to their final position as determined by Dr. McClaran’s treatment plan. Invisalign is a great option for both children and adults. Come into our office today to determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign.
